Care

The ethical standard of Care includes compassion, acceptance, interest and insight for developing students' potential. Members express their commitment to students' well-being and learning through positive influence, professional judgment, and empathy in practice. (OCT, Ethical Standards)

Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectation #3: Reflective and Creative Thinker

The OCT Ethical Standard of Care is evidenced in OCSGE#3: A Reflective and Creative Thinker Who - Recognizes there is more grace in our world than sin and that hope is essential in facing all challenges.

As a member of the OCT: “members are dedicated in their care and commitment to students.” This is also in keeping with the OCSGE to help create a reflective and creative thinker.  Teachers are confronted with various problem solving scenarios involving students on a daily basis. In working with students, especially those who may be at risk, good behaviour of people of faith should be modelled. This can be achieved through actions that with hard work, in addition to having hope and praying to our God, we are able to confront any challenge.

Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectation #6:
A Caring Family Member

The Ethical Standard of care is also similar to the CGE #6: A Caring Family Member Who: attends to family, school, parish, and the wider community.

As a secondary school science teacher, a challenge I am confronted with reguraly is trying to make Mass relevant to the students. I would like my students to see the relevance of Mass in their daily lives.  Making this connection can be challenging due to the fact that many students do not attend church regularly and are preoccupied by other forms of communication to be stimulated by Mass proceeedings.
