Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectation #2: An Effective Communicator

The Ontario Catholic Graduate School Expectation of an Effective Communicator asks student to present information and ideas clearly, honestly, and with sensitivity to others. Nowadays students are living in a society where verbal dialogue is not the dominant form of medium utilized to transfer or communicate information. As a registered teacher, it is our responsibleiblity through Ontario College of Teachers to self direct our professional development to meet the changing needs of our students. Students need to be equipped with the right tools to do the job for today's world. The tools students used to get the job done through the 70s, 80s, 90s, will not work in today's world. As teachers we need to build student compentencies for using various mediums to transfer information and we need to do so while maintaining academic honesty and socio-culture sensitivity.

The following activity was used to anaylze information from different perspectives, written for different audiences.

Part of presenting information with clarity and accuracy is to first understand the content and the context in which it is being interpreted.

This activity address Ontario Catholic Graduate School Expectations for being an effective communicator:

 • understands and uses written materials effectively OCGSE2b

 • presents information and ideas clearly and honestly and with
    sensitivity to others OCGSE2c
