Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectation #1: A Discerning Believer Formed in the Catholic Faith Community
In the province of Ontario, Catholic teachers have the privledge right to experience a publically funded faith based education system. One of the pleasures is when the students, staff, and school community congregate to celebrate in the prayer services of Mass. When our Faith is witnessed by others, it develops deeper meaning and relevance then when practiced in isolation.
I had an excellent time creating this acitvity, which called us to formulate a prayer service. I was able to share the prayer service with my family over the weekend and I plan to share it with our school community in June.
Engagning in this activity demonsrtated the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expecation #1:
(a) Illustrates a basic understanding of the saving story of our Christian
faith.
(b) Participates in the sacramental life of the church and demonstrates
an understanding of the centrality of the Eucharist to our Catholic
story.
(c) Actively reflects on God's Word as communicated through the
Hebrew and Christian scriptures.
(g) Understands that one's purpose or call in life comes from God and
strives to discern and live out this call throughout life's journey
Discerning Believer Activity Reinforcement
The Bible is a very challenging read. Especially if you are a secondary school student, even more so for elementary. Making text to text connections for comprehension and identifying explicit information to relate to our prior life experiences to make inferences are skills which grow to potential in the early years of university undergraduate studies. As a Catholic teacher our challenge is how do we try to communicate the meaning of the information in a way which is recepted by our student population. Please feel free to view the file below which illustrates my interpetation of the difference between Genesis 1:1-2:4 and Genesis 2:4–25.
